Driving back from an assignment for The Colorado Sun in mid-February, I pulled onto a side road and snapped this picture of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. The craggy peaks to right of frame are the Crestones, four of Colorado’s 58 14,000-foot peaks (Crestone Peak, the Crestone Needle, Kit Carson Mountain, and Humbolt Peak) which people, for reasons beyond me, feel compelled to scale.
